Approach to Treatment
inITIAL CONSULTATION
Our work together will begin with an initial consultation tailored to the concerns that bring you to treatment. If applicable and with your permission, I may review prior treatment records or speak with others who have been involved in your care. I will then provide you with my initial assessment of the nature of your difficulties and with recommendations regarding treatments that may be helpful taking into account your specific needs and preferences.
psychotherapy/PSYCHOANALYSIS
Psychotherapy is most helpful when sessions occur at least weekly. In some cases, meeting multiple times a week is ideal for producing meaningful and long-lasting benefits. We will discuss what makes sense for you. My approach to psychotherapy is largely psychodynamic/psychoanalytic, which means that I attend to the aspects of the mind that are unconscious as well as those that are conscious. In psychotherapy, we will work together to explore and understand your inner life and address specific areas of difficulty.
medication
I prescribe medication when appropriate. If it appears that medication may be helpful, I will collaborate with you to choose a medication that is likely to be effective and aligns with your preferences. If you are already taking medication when we first meet, I will assess your current regimen and provide my recommendations on it.
billing & insurance
My practice is not in-network with any insurance plans due to my commitment to provide truly personalized, comprehensive, and private care. If you have a health insurance plan, it may provide out-of-network benefits for the services I provide. At your request I will give you a statement (sometimes called a “superbill”) that you may submit to your insurance for any available out-of-network reimbursement. Please contact your insurance plan directly to learn about what, if any, out-of-network benefits you may have.
Please contact me directly to learn about my current rates, which are similar to those of other psychiatrists in private practice in the Bay Area.
